Are you getting your fair share?

Welcome to the 18th AAAI Report.

Are you one of the long term employees who have been with one organisation for more than 8 years? If so, does this loyalty to your employer mean that you might miss out on career openings that would possibly move you up the management ladder faster? Are you getting paid below or above the market compared to others in your area of specialisation? These are some of many questions that we are currently being asked by candidates.

There are no definite answers to these questions as everyone will have different aspirations in what they are looking for in their ideal position. Employees want to know that they are recognised for their technical ability, experience and contribution to their employer. However, they equally want flexibility to manage their own time whether it be in an office or at home. We are finding that work/life balance is often an issue valued by employees as highly as the traditional attractions of money, position and quality of work.

If you are interested in finding out what is available in the marketplace, then we would be more than happy to communicate with you on a confidential basis. If so, please call a consultant in your state who will assist you with your enquiries.

What is the market place doing?

As we progress further into 2008, we have seen no slowing at all in our recruitment efforts. All of our state offices are currently very busy in most market sectors with no indication of it slowing down any time soon. This is apparent from a general lack of available candidates for our advertised positions. As a result, clients are now placing more onus on AAAI to search for and uncover candidates for these positions.

We would expect this upward trend to continue from our clients using both Executive Search along with Advertised Search and Selection campaigns. We are actively involved with a range of large corporates who typically have projects in Australia and overseas requiring senior design engineers, along with line and general management employees. We have recently placed several senior positions within the construction industry utilising our Executive Search services for a large construction company in WA. This is quite an achievement, given WA is a state notorious for being short of any available candidates across the board. Both positions were filled in a timely manner using both extensive market research and network referrals that enabled us to satisfy the client's needs. This has seen them continue to push their growth into the future, delivering major projects for their own clients and giving quality candidates an opportunity to gain valuable experience. A true win, win situation!

Once again, thank you for reading the AAAI Report. I would be delighted if you recommend this report to any of your colleagues who might be interested in reading it.

Best regards,
Mike Hayes
