Oil & Gas Sector - Heating up
Welcome to the second AAAI report. As we all know, we are still experiencing a strong construction boom phase, especially in the general infrastructure field (road, rail and bridge work). This was reinforced last week again by NSW Premier Bob Carr, with his announcement of further spending by the Government of up to $8 billion of additional infrastructure work. This is a massive boost to the NSW economy and again forces pressure on companies to resource up for these projects. In addition, Peter Beattie and his Government are about to embark on a $5 billion dollar spending spree on general infrastructure work to keep pace with the strong growth in the state of Queensland.
This is great news for groups such as AAAI who specialise in the placement of engineers. However, we still have to rely on using our extensive candidate network and candidate referrals to tap into the small pool of available specialist engineers. For those candidate's considering a career move or experiencing some restlessness at the workplace, then please do not hesitate to contact me directly on mike.hayes@aaai.com.au or call (02) 9439 2977 for a confidential discussion.
One for the clients!
An excellent example of a client directly taking control of its constant battle to find available candidates is underway by John Holland/Thiess JV, regarding the $1.5 billion Eastlink project in Melbourne. The group needed to recruit staff quickly and effectively as its current staff level was already stretched with other projects around Australia. It recently attracted up to 15,000 applicants through its own online recruitment drive. The recruitment ads focused on how people could work on a major project, could build on their transferable skills and receive training and career development as well as enjoy the sophisticated lifestyle living in Melbourne! Hats off to them for taking the initiative and to be innovative in their recruitment efforts.
AAAI have just completed a massive recruitment assignment for a major Oil & Gas EPCM contractor regarding both an overseas and a local project. As their recruitment partner, we were involved in recruiting a full project team involved with FEED design through to the Project Director. As our client had not been involved with a major win in this part of the world before, the company recognised our experience in this part of the world very early on, so we were brought in to establish the entire project recruitment process. This included. candidate screening, processing & scoring technical templates against candidates experience, working through visa & immigration issues, providing detailed references and handling offer negotiations. The process was a very successful recruitment experience for the client and further to this, we now have new opportunities for candidates seeking to work or stay in Australia on Oil & Gas projects for the group. If you would like to know more about any of these available roles in the Oil & Gas sector, then please email our National Director Peter Reynolds at peter.reynolds@aaai.com or call him on (07) 3831 8500
If you would like to review some of our current work opportunities, then please visit our website for more details. Please note that as some of our retained work is non-advertised, we advise you to contact our consultants directly for regular updates about those roles.
Regards,
Mike Hayes.
